Presenting the art for ellipsisthgreat's lovely fic: Focus (on Me)!

This has been a journey filled with more ups and downs than I had first expected-- here I thought I'd only have to juggle work with my usual laziness and procrastination, but nope, turned out to be a surprise!evacuee of the worst floods in recent Thai history and had to deal with all additional crappery that entailed. One keeps on keeping on though, we have somewhere to stay in town, it could have been worse and hey, I got to practice using actualfax drawing implements again! There's something to be said about the kind of lines that come directly from your hand, but oh how wonderful life would be if CTRL+Z worked in real time and one didn't have to erase and erase and pray that the paper wouldn't rip/smudge/whathaveyou.


...title image! Or: The most people I have incorporated in an ensemble piece so far, this is so much easier with layers in photoshop ahhh ahhhh. Drawing outfits being one of my greatest loves and given how much I fixated on the Magician robes, I really wanted to showcase how Bones and Jim look all suited-up. The rest of the cast is pictured with their familiars.

...Jim being the smug McSmugerson Smirkface we all know and love. This was the first picture I drew to get a feel of the outfit and character beyond the roughs I had scribbled up. I feel that Jim would be a bit more fast-and-loose with the uniform-- belts are for squares, amirite?

...Uhura and her familiar. Uhura is fierce and awesome and a pleasure to draw, ergo this picture. Again with her you can see the different touches I wanted to have in her robes-- basically to ward off boredom of drawing the same thing all the time, but also because I feel the best part of uniforms is seeing what people do to personalize their own (speaking as someone who had to wear uniforms all through Grade 2 to graduation XD).

...now Spock as a graduate has a bit more leeway and different outfits to play around with than the others, so this was also great fun.

...and because I seem to be allergic to finishing a Big Bang of any fandom without a chibi picture, here's Bones being bothered by Jim. He's dressed in the tunic uniform that students have to wear when they go on excursions/trips.


THANKS: First and foremost, my lovely author ellipsisthgreat! It was a pleasure to work with Ellie and she proved to be fantastically patient and understanding of my fits of procrastination, being suddenly incommunicado for days on end, random progress email spam written in the throes of sleep deprivation and general *handwaves*. Her fic is a wonderful read and has MAGIC!! and ADVENTURE!! and a great ensemble and relationships between the characters so you should all go read it RIGHT NOW.

Also I would like the usual suspects for listening to me whine on Twitter about my Progress and also my office for having a communal scanner that I appropriated (after work hours mind you! XD) to scan these pics in. NOPE that was a bust but heyyy shopping centers w/ net cafes and scanner services are awesome and a godsend.

Thank all of you too for stopping by to have a look! Everything should be okay with the pictures, if there's a visibility problem just poke me and I'll try to fix it the next time I'm in front of a desktop. Which won't be for another 13 odd hours, gulp ^^.

And it was no real trouble pshaww *handwaves*. It was a good task to focus on and I really wanted to produce something that fitted and was worthy of your awesome fic <3 -- a healthy sense of guilt and impending deadlines seems to always be the best creative fuel for me anyways, I am somewhat vaguely disturbed to admit XDD

hahahaha, I think I laughed for about 10 minutes due to the last picture. *____________* so much goodness!

also, I really enjoy the intricate patterns of the header, it looks so mesmerizing and you can totally get lost in the swirls and patters.

Confession: every time I write out the word HAYYYYYYYYY I have to say it out loud. It's irresistable!

Danke danke my dear! I was especially so psyched that the gold ribbon bit turned out so well-- it was actually born of random attempts at making an aesthetic-looking squiggle that should symbolize Jim's magic and heyyyy presto something worked out XD. Drawing patterns that are swirly and not bound that much by the rules of geometry are super fun, too!

These. Are. GORGEOUS. Chibi Bones & Jim are slaying me!! Your detailed scroll work in their tunics is beautiful! My fave, though, has to be Scotty and Keenser. I just love the glares they are giving each other!!! (I think I can work a few more exclamation marks in here if I try. :P)
