Instead of using my scant free time to finally update and catch up extensively, I am halfway through a very engrossing Superman/Batman fic and listening to the new Lily Allen album that I managed to score for a pittance, along with David Cook's album, at the lunchtime open market near the office. Also bought some truly hideously kitschy Barapapa and Tigerman earrings that were 20 baht a pop, just because I could.
An attempt now to keep things brief, as always I will try and answer comments and other posts tomorrow!
DAY FOUR:
PRO: I got to go to the v. swank Metropolitan hotel to see a bona fide PR event in action.
CON: There were already two "senior interns" there manning the reception/registration desk, and thus nothing for me to do. But stand around. And look attentive. In heels. For three hours
PRO: We got to eat the left-over petit-fours after the guests left. Om nom nom tiny fruit tarts!
And I finally got to talk to some of the interns! One even went to RIS, as well (the English section, though)
CON: After the initial polite chatter, things got kind of awkward pretty quick. And jeebus christ, the overly cutesy way that some Thai girls act around each other never fails to at turns baffle me and/or sometimes freak me out or even irritate me. Mainly it's confusing though, especially when they act that way with the staff, too. A little voice in my head keeps screaming that is so inappropiate!!1 lolol Asian!fail for me, I guess!I blame my parents for never being susceptible to such a tour, thus making young!me get off that train reaaaaal fast
DAY FIVE:
PRO: I got to translate MOAR THINGS! Copy for some online promo games! Twitter-sized chunks of information from longer bits in Thai! I even got to use my French lolol the games were supposed to be based in ~Paris~ and had all these ~authentic~ French names that were pretty much all correct, except for the supposed entertainment district "Le s'amuse" .......lolol I totally double-taked, the first time I saw this. The convo with my super was pretty fun as well-- "Yeahhh P' kaa, I think that some of these French words aren't correct na?" "Yes, yes, that's so that we don't get sued if we accidentally used real names!" "No, no--- I mean that some of the words uh, don't work. Not reall *flaily handgesture*" ".....ohhh. Well. Whoops." ....I wonder if the changes could be made in time? I was mainly just amused that this happened on Bastille Day :D
CON: Still too many gaping hours of nothingness and trying not to fall asleep at the desk. I feel so weird complaining about not being occupied enough or something lol.
PRO: Getting to legit read through magazines for two hours in the name of "research" was pretty sweet though. Depressing that it was so exciting to me, but yay mags!
DAY SIX:
PRO: HALLELUJAH I FINALLY HAVE A LARGE OVERARCHING PROJECT THAT WILL TAKE ME AT LEAST A FEW DAYS TO HACK AT YESSSSS. Competitive Assessments! Which basically entail watching some rival ad spots, screencapping the heck outta them, transcribing the dialogue, voice-overs and product descriptions and fine print ("super" and "legal super"), and then attempting to analyze and classify it all. Yesssss ♥
PRO: Slow days can be a boon when you are nearly passing out in front of your computer again, I guess! Tried no coffee at lunch and staying awake through copious amounts of sugary treats. Pretty stupid plan, but it was delicious.
SO I GUESS THIS IS A BIT LONG NOW whoops. Bed time for reals now, over and outtt :D
