DING DING DING!
Aug. 20th, 2008 11:08 pmIs an approximation of the sound my attention span and motivation makes when its end has officially been breached! One more week and change to go until I'm freeee, and then, over two months of my sweet sweet summer holidays will have been over. Gah. I mean! I am still having a good time at BK-- but now that I've basically done everything cool already, the shine has kind of worn off... and the tedious bits become even more tedious when I think that Bell is going to be done this Friday and I will have no one to bitch about the editors and our sometimes boring and inane tasks with. :((( ...P' Saisa doesn't count as she IS staff, just really new. Hopefully the New Media Assistant who is supposed to come this Monday will take some uploading content load of my shoulders, because nothing puts you to sleep more than having to individually type in concerts and musicals in an online database that is kinda really SLOW AS SHIT.
Today had one cool thing going for it though, as I got to accompany the Food Editor to do an "Open Door" feature, which is basically the same as the "On the Bar" profiles I'd done before, except for food. Bankara at Sukhumvit Soi 39 was our goal for the day, apparently this is the first overseas franchise of a big Ramen chain in Japan EVER. And after having sampled the sprawling selection they had for us-- that was, I kid you not, FOUR large bowls of different types of Ramen, a plate of hot gyoza, some miso-rubbed pork cuttings I do not know the name of atm, a seasoned bamboo shoot salad and later on, a mint-soymilk pudding-esque thing. It was simply an impossible task to finish it all and MY STOMACH, IT WAS BURSTING (and I was actually ravenous because this was at 2PM and I am more than accustomed to being hungry hungry hungryyyyyy at oh, around 11AM most of the time). The food was SO FUCKING GOOD. Flavorful and really how I imagine 'authentic' Ramen to taste like (Hachiban can go to hellllll), and all the ingredients were nicely selected and the PORK MMH FATTY DELICIOUSNESS. My personal favorites were the Miso Ramen, the soup was so delightfully full of miso-taste and slightly thick, and the noodles were just the right amount of chewy and soup-absorbent and then afterwards, the DESSERT!!1 was just the right kind of refreshing palate cleanser after basically killing ourselves by overeating. Oh, and did I mention how dirt cheap this all is?? Everything in the menu is comfortably in the 140-230 baht range for some truly large portions of MMMH. The deco is also very nice and if you didn't tell me what kind of a place it is I would've guessed an actual Japanese place that didn't serve only Ramen. The Japanese owner apparently also left his mark with some HUGE calligraphy 'graffiti' on the premises, heh.
Thank god the Food Editor lost the address to the Tonkatsu place we were supposed to hit up afterwards, though! I have the sinking suspicion that I will be sent on a solo mission to look for it tomorrow though? Hopefully I can take Bell along for company~~
